Hosted by Anni Art Gallery and sponsored by the cultural forum of the Austrian embassy Beijing Kafkanistan's first multimedia show opened it's gates on June 20th with hundreds of people participating.

In the playful opening ceremony, guests receive faux passports and customs stamps at the door from guards dressed in Afghan police uniforms. In another installation area, called Paradise, visitors will have the opportunity to try on burqas, the traditional garment worn by women in some Islamic countries. (CityWeekend)

Although the project is laced with commentary on politics and war, Birk says the intent was never political. “The project is all about the tourists’ story about the world that people never know. Actually, it is not about Afghanistan, it is about the tourists who went to Afghanistan. (BeijingToday)
